I am the lucky mother of three children ranging in age from teen to newborn.
I am currently studying Midwifery through Charles Darwin University, and I have an Associate’s Degree in Midwifery from The Matrona, located in North Carolina, USA.
I completed Childbirth Educator and Birth Doula training through DONA International, and Birth and Postpartum Doula training through Optimum Birth. In the ten years I have been a doula I have attended over 250 women in widely varying birthing situations, including elective and emergency cesareans, public and private hospitals, and homebirth.
I am currently undertaking a Cert IV in Breastfeeding Counselling through the Australian Breastfeeding Association, and have used my doula training and personal experience of extended and tandem breastfeeding to support many of my clients through breastfeeding challenges.
I have been encapsulating placentas for 8 years and in that time have completed nearly 500. I have a Blood Borne Pathogen Certification and a Food Handling Certification, and have completed many specialized workshops with experts such as Patricia Edmonds, as well as running my own.
I have spent many years advocating for the rights of childbearing women. For several years I was the Consumer Representative on the Queensland Maternal and Perinatal Quality Council, a state government advisory board tasked with collecting maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity statistics and writing reports and recommendations to QLD to improve the safety of mothers and babies. I have also been heavily involved with Homebirth Queensland, running support groups and public education activities.
